All orders for radioactive material must be placed through SAP. Radioactive orders are processed through an RADP Shopping Cart. The Radiation Control Unit approves the RADP shopping cart. Once the RADP shopping cart is approved, a purchase order is generated, and the order is electronically sent to the manufacturer. See the document “Shopping Cart: Create a RADP Order.”
Each order requires the following data: the Authorized User (PI) name & authorization user number, lab location, isotope, activity (mCi), catalog number, price, and vendor. Use the shipping address specified below. Reduced prices may be available for your item through a manufacturer’s JHMI price quote, e.g., Revvity. The price list is available from Radiation Control (410-955-3710) /or by email ([email protected] or [email protected]). Copies of the quote can be emailed upon request.
Delivery of Orders to the lab
When the order is delivered to RCU, we check the package for damage, contamination, and radiation levels. Each item is entered into the SciShield inventory of the appropriate laboratory, and a unique RCU inventory number is generated. The order is then delivered to the laboratory. RCU cannot store radioactive material other than at room temperature.
Transfer of radioactive material between labs on the same campus
Use the “Transfer Request Radioactive Materials” form. Submit completed copies, signed by both labs, to Radiation Control at the email address listed above or Fax 410-955-3710. A new RCU number may be issued to the receiving lab for the compound.
Transfer of radioactive material outside of Hopkins
The RCU will ship radioactive packages from JHMI to any outside site, unless approved by RCU. Please get in touch with RCU in advance to arrange a shipping container and coordinate the shipment. The package must comply with USDOT regulations, as outlined in 49 CFR 171.
