CS-137 & X-Ray Irradiators
Johns Hopkins has several Irradiators available for your research needs. These include X-ray and Cs-137 sealed source irradiators.
- For X-ray irradiators, please contact Esteban Velarde [email protected]
- For Cs-137 sealed sourced Irradiator – Please contact Carl Granlund, RSO, [email protected]. Or contact the Radiation Control Unit office at 410-955-3710, during normal business hours
Different requirements are needed to obtain access to use either type of irradiator. Additional training is required to use the Irradiators. Specific requirements will be discussed during the initial contract.
For independent access to the Cs-137 sealed source irradiators, individuals must subject themselves to a security background check. Once all of the information is received and reviewed by the Radiation Safety Officer, a determination is made, and the individual is notified. This process can take at least 4 weeks. Please plan accordingly.
No additional dosimeters are needed to operate the Irradiators. The Irradiators are self-shielded. The irradiator rooms are continuously monitored for exposure by Radiation Control.
