While most clinical/patient care areas in JHH are considered healthcare occupancies, there are many buildings and floors within buildings that are considered business occupancies. To determine if your area in Johns Hopkins Hospital is a healthcare or business occupancy, visit: HSE408 – Evacuation Plans in JHH. Upon activation of a fire alarm, healthcare occupancies ‘defend in place’ as a first response. Business occupancies will evacuate.  Review your unit’s evacuation plans.

OES provides annual fire team training to members of the JHH Incipient Stage Fire Response Team and JHH Operating Room staff. JHH employees who have not received the required training are trained to R.A.C.E. (Rescue, Alarm, Contain, Evacuate).

JHU buildings are business occupancy, which require evacuation upon activation of a fire alarm. Review your buildings evacuation plans. HSE412 – Fire Alarm Response for JHU Buildings: East Baltimore and (HSE411) Fire Incident Responsibilities in JHU. JHU employees who complete the required myLearning courses: “Using Fire Extinguishers at JHU Homewood” and “Using Fire Extinguishers at JHU Homewood (Instructor Led)” for Homewood; or “Incipient Stage Fire Response Team Training (Instructor Led)” for East Baltimore, may fight incipient fires with fire extinguishers. Anyone not trained annually is expected to R.A.C.E. in the event of a fire.

Employee Specific Emergency Evacuation Plans are prepared upon request for anyone with mobility issues. Individuals may contact OES to request plans be made.

Baltimore City Fire Department annual use and occupancy permits are maintained by OES.
